This trek is great combination of the High Inca Trail and the Traditional one, where you will get stunning views of our Mountains Ranges with some snowcapped mountains, our first night is a bit cold located at 12,500 ft. the clear evening skies ablaze with stars. Spend a few days surrounded by the pure magic of the Andes and Lares Valley community, unique and spectacular cultural experience encompassed by nature.
The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is a memorable and unique experience, definitely it´s one of the world’s best treks and for those who visit Peru looking for good adventure this is definitely the best choice. This ancient trail was laid by the Incas and is one of the many trails that used to connect different cities and temple of the Inca Empire.
The Royal Inca Trail leads from the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu combining different ecosystems, microclimates and lot of history giving the visitors a really amazing experience. People enjoy from the very start of this trek looking at how the spectacular scenery of the Andes Mountains merges into the cloudy forest to finally arrive to the magnificent complex of Machu Picchu lying on a green plateau where the architectural art is in perfect harmony with the natural environment
Before the trek, your guide will meet you at your hotel for an in-depth briefing. This provides an opportunity to ask questions and do any last-minute shopping before leaving Cusco. The itinerary below is an example. Hiking times are an average and will vary depending on the group. Additionally, lunch and camp sites may change to meet the needs of the group and conditions.
DAY 1: CUSCO – LARES – HUACAWASI
You´ll enjoy a delicious breakfast just before we´ll pick you up to go to Calca in the Sacred Valley. Once there we have the last chance to buy anything you think you could need.
We keep going to the highest place will be this first day: 4265 meters above sea level (13992 FASL), there Sawasiray and Pitusiray, two big mountains, say hello to us. Then we go down to 3207 MASL/10521 FASL in Lares a typical and small Colonial Town. There we can enjoy the springs, have lunch and finally get ready to start our hiking adventure.
We´ll take an Increasing path to Huacawasi (3600 MASL – 12,500 FASL) our first stop. This little Town is full of colors and good Vibes. Houses made of adobe and many of the typical Llamas.
DAY 2: HUACAWASI -PATACANCHA – OLLANTAYTAMBO
After an early wake up and breakfast you will start trekking. We will hike between 7 to 8 hours, on the beginning we will uphill to the Abra pass (4480m). The climb is pretty hard with an indescribable panoramic view of snow-capped peaks of Pitusiray, Sawasiray, Chicon and surrounding by stunning landscape.
Half way stops for a lunch break. While hiking we will pass Andean communities. This people have a large knowledge of natural agriculture and ancient ways of working textile so that their colorful clothes, unique from this region.
After the pass we will continue our journey downwards until our campsite next to the small village of Patacancha (3720m). Where you will board our Bus towards Ollantaytambo, tonight we have two options either a hotel or campsite.
DAY 3: OLLANTAYTAMBO- KM 104 – WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHU PICCHU
We will take the train in Ollantaytambo. The train will take you to kilometer 104. At this checkpoint, after checking our tickets and passports with a Machu Picchu Park Ranger, we will start trekking (for approximately 3 hours), up to the well-preserved remains of Wiñay Wayna (8700 ft.).
After lunch, we will have some time to rest and to explore the site’s houses, terraces, towers, as well as to visit the Inti Punku, the Inca Gate of the Sun, where we can catch the first sight of Machu Picchu. After an overview and orientation about the city of Machu Picchu, you will take the shuttle bus to Aguas Caliente, where we will spend the night.
A Box Lunch will be provided at noon.
Day 4: Machu picchu – Cusco
After an early breakfast, you will get picked up by your guide to go visit to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and have a day filled exploring. After this amazing visit you will go back to Machu Picchu Town (Aguas Calientes) where you have lunch included in a local restaurant and then you´ll take the Expedition train back to Cusco. Upon arrival at the train station in Ollantaytambo train station you´ll be taken in a private vehicle back to your hotel.
Please note: we offer a daily snack in the morning and our meal service is very complete and well provided. The recommendation to have your own snack only applies to customers who like a specific snack that may not be on our menu.
You will be picked up at your hotel in Cusco in the morning between 6:00 and 6:15 a.m. Transportation will pick up passengers from several different hotels in Cusco, so your pick-up time may vary. Get ready and wait in the lobby.
