Make your way to Machu Picchu on this newly discovered and less crowded route. This 4-day trek will offer you amazing sceneries with waterfalls and Inca ruins as well as the chance to pass by a beautiful remote Sun Gate and visit breathtaking archaeological sites en route to Ollantaytambo.
Before the trek, your guide will meet you at your hotel for an in-depth briefing. This provides an opportunity to ask questions and do any last-minute shopping before leaving Cusco.
The itinerary below is an example. Hiking times are an average and will vary depending on the group. Additionally, lunch and camp sites may change to meet the needs of the group and conditions.
DAY 1: CUSCO CHOQUEQUILLA RAFQA SOCMA PEROLNIYOC QORIMARCA
We will have an early morning, we will pick up you and we will drive to Choquequilla, a small ceremonial place where Incas worshipped the moon. Then we will arrive to starting point of the trek, Rafq’a, and meet the horsemen who join us on the hike. The first stop of our hike will be at the small community of Socma. Carry on to the Perolniyoc cascade lookout, an opportunity to stop for photos and a snack break. Continue to the campsite (3700 m above sea level). You should reach the campsite around lunchtime. After lunch, we will have the chance to explore the Q’orimarca archaeological site, which once served as a checkpoint to the Incas.
DAY 2: PUCCAQASA KUYCHICASSA CHOQUETACARPO
Today we will have an early start and also will be the most challenging day. After 3 hours of walk, takes you to the top of the first pass of Puccaqasa (4370 m). We will have some time for enjoying the view and also have lunch there. Afterwards, hike to Kuychicassa (approximately 2 hours), the highest pass of the trek (4450 m). From here, descend to the sacred site the Incas called Intipunku (Sun Gate), with views of the Nevado Veronica Mountain. Late afternoon we will arrive in our campsite Choquetacarpo.
DAY 3: KACHIQATA OLLANTAYTAMBO AGUAS CALIENTES
because will be just downhill and our first stop will be Kachiqata quarry, where the Incas were intercepted by the Spanish. Around midday, your trek comes to an end. We will have some free time at Ollantaytambo before taking the short train journey to Aguas Calientes. Spend the night in a comfortable hotel before tomorrow’s visit to Machu Picchu.
DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU CUSCO
This day we will have two options or going by walk at 4:30am or take the bus to Machu Picchu. In Machu Picchu, you will have a guided tour for about two hours then you will have your free time for enjoying this
fantastic place, or if you desire, ascent toward the Huayna Picchu Mountain. At the evening we will be back to Cusco by train and bus then we will leave you at your hotel.
