SUMMARY OF THE ACTIVITY
This alternative hike takes you next to the spectacular Ausangate (6.372m / 20900ft) crossing the spectacular mountain (AUSANGATE) through wonderful mountain landscapes and discovering authentic Andean villages, hot springs and turquoise lakes.
Ausangate offers the most spectacular views of this sacred Andean mountain before it deviates to the impressive Sibinacocha lagoon, leaving behind crowds of tourists and entering an almost uninhabited area where you can really communicate with nature.
The walk ends in Phinaya.
Before the walk, your guide will meet you at your hotel for a detailed information session. This provides the opportunity to ask questions and make last minute purchases before leaving Cusco. The itinerary below is an example. Walking times are an average and will vary according to the group, in addition, lunch and camps may change to meet the needs of the group.

DAY 1 CUSCO – TINQUI – PACCHANTA
The traveler will be picked up from the hotel in a private bus and will take you along the Cusco – Puerto Maldonado road (via the Transoceanic Highway) in the direction of Tinqui (3800m / 12464 feet).
The first stop will be in Urcos (crossing the main bus road), there is a colorful market and then continue the road to Cattca, an agricultural and livestock community where you can appreciate the spectacular views of the region. Then finally pass by Ocongate, the capital of the district with the same name, is half an hour from the destination
After 3 hours by car, arrive at Tinki, where you will have lunch and then the walk is 3 hours to Pacchanta (4100m / 13448ft), our camp. (Total hours of hiking – 3 hours)
DAY 2 PACCHANTA – QOMERQOCHA – LAGOON – JAMPA PAMPA D / A / C
The second day begins with a slight climb from the Pacchanta valley to reach the beautiful Qomercocha lagoon, where lunch will be. After lunch, the hike continues until the first mountain pass, the Abra de Q´ampa (Jampa) at 5080 m / 16400 feet, after approximately 3 hours. Then they descend to the lagoons of Ticllaqocha, they are a beautiful group of small turquoise lagoons. Finally, the walk continues for 2 more hours until reaching Jampa Pampa, where the camp is located (total hours of walking – 6-7 hours)
DAY 3 JAMPA PAMPA – CONDORPASO D / A / C
After breakfast, the walk is a gradual ascent towards Yanaqocha or “Laguna Negra”, named for the dark color of its waters. Passing over the Yanaqocha mountain pass (5050 m / 15564 feet) to discover a surprisingly beautiful valley with an explosion of colorful mountains, 3 spectacular lagoons and the presence of llamas and alpacas. Then cross this valley to go to our next mountain pass (5100m / 16728ft). From this point, it is another hour of walking before reaching Condorpaso, the next camp, located very close to the mountain pass with the same name. That will be the challenge for the next day. (Total hours of walking – 6-7 hours)
DAY 4 CONDORPASO – LAKE SIBINACOCHA – MOMORANI D / A / C
After breakfast, the trek continues to climb gradually from the valley, this path takes us to the Abra del Cóndor mountain pass (5200 m / 17056 feet). After approx. 2 hour walk to reach the highest point of the walk. From that point, the hike will continue for an additional 3 hours, crossing another mountain pass along the way and then descending into the valley of Lake Sibinacocha.
We will camp next to the lagoon and very close to its source. From the camp it is very likely that you can see the Andean coots, “Huallatas” or Andean geese, as well as the Andean ducks. (Total hours of walking – 6-7 hours)
DAY 5 MOMORANI – CCASCANA D / A / C
On this day, walk along the shore of the Sibinacocha lagoon for 3 hours until you reach the Yayamari community. Next to the mountain with the same name is an impressive rocky peak overlooking the lagoon (5500 m / 18040 feet). The walk is until we reach Abra Ccascana at 5000m / 16400 feet, which will take us to the lagoon of the same name. In that area is our last camp, from there we can have the opportunity to see “Huallatas” or Andean goose and maybe even flamingos.
DAY 6 CCASCANA – PHINAYA – CUSCO (D)
Just after breakfast, the walk is 3 hours and a half to Phinaya. This is a small Andean community with a beautiful small church and no vehicles, except bicycles and horses, where lunch is located. In the afternoon we will return to Cusco (approximately 6 hours)
You will be picked up at your hotel in Cusco in the morning between 6:00 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. Transportation will pick up passengers from several different hotels in Cusco, so your pick-up time may vary. Get ready and wait in the lobby.
